Wipeout

It's been so long since I last painted. I think you can tell from this piece. The bottom half wasn't going quite the way I imagined it, so I grabbed the white acrylic and ... wipeooouut. Sort of. Leaving it as it is. It's done :)

Kebaya girls

Another piece I don't think I will be finishing any time soon. Half way through I started doodling on it. Then the toddler got her hands on my brush again and gave the girl at the bottom right corner a nice pink makeover.

It's the fasting month now and soon we will be celebrating Eid-al Fitr. Am thinking of making some cards.
We'll see :)

Pouches #20 & #21

Back to making pouches. I used to baste the zip and labour over corners and getting straight lines. Practice really does make it easier. Now I just pin the zips in place and sew away. I don't even change to a zipper foot. And my lines are straighter too thanks to a stable wooden table. Bye-bye plastic foldable table. You have served me well.

Faces

I managed to find some time to do a spot of drawing this past week. Here are two that I did. I used my favourite pen - Pilot G-TEC-C4. You can get really fine, clear lines. Unfortunately, the ink is not water resistant. But that's ok. For the hair and other details that require filling in I used ZIG Brushables by Kuretake

I'm hoping that I'll be able to get more done soon. Fingers crossed :)

Oi! Bag

This bag is an extension of the Oi! series. I'm still thinking if I should include the guy who cries out Oi! but I quite like it just the way it is. My only gripe is that I had put it into the washer and the colours faded just as it did Pouch #13 even though I had used the fabric markers instead of paints. Bummer. I used calico for both the bag and pouch so my guess is that the fabric does not absorb the dye well.

More experimenting to come.

Thanks to Sweetie #1 for patiently modeling the bag for me :)

Illustration Friday: Oi! #2 - Haunt

Took this picture in the nick of time right before Sweetie #2 trampled over it.
No damage done though :)

I realize it's been about a month since I did anything for Illustration Friday. So, for this week's topic I am submitting a painting from my new series called "Oi!" It's a dull day at the local haunt and the guy decided they could all use a wake up call or err.. yell.

People

Ok. Not really mugshots. Portraits perhaps?
Just having some fun creating these characters. Sweetie #1 wants me to work on some animals next.

Oi!

It's no wonder why Sweetie #1 likes this one. There is not a single house in sight!

Untitled

Chinese watercolour on paper. 9" X 27"

I don't have a title for this piece but it's part of my Sarkas series. I love it. It's one of my favourites. I did it back in 2009 during one of my short creative bursts.

These days Sweetie #1 would roll her eyes and snort before leaving the room every time she sees me working on my houses. Haha. Looks like it's time I go back to painting other stuff again.

Girls 2000

I painted this in 2000 on a piece of plank I found. I've been meaning to hang it up somewhere but I have yet to get around to it. It's nearly 3 feet long of girls in various kebaya and baju kurung. Here's a youtube video on other Malaysian traditional clothes. I wish they had labeled the clothes and where they are from.

Blast from the Past

More old work done in 2000. I don't know where they have all gone! Probably gave them away or sold them off. Now all I have are these photos of photos of the actual pieces.

 I miss them :)

2009 revisited

This piece done in 2009 is reminiscent of the *paintings I did way back in 2000.

*The paintings were part of a series called Sarkas (Circus)

2009

I painted only a handful of pieces in 2009. Here are two of them. These old ones are populated with people and animals, something I will definitely go back to again.
